Get It In Your Soul offers Scripture-based Driving Reflections Minnesota Christian Chronicle - January, 2008 By Bryan Malley
BLOOMINGTON — Relying on the fact that the average American family spends up to 2.5 hours a day in their vehicle, Jane Brown, president of Get It In Your Soul, created Driving Reflections to "help people take ownership of God’s promises."
"We spend so much time in our cars, and that seems to be one of our only sanctuaries to think on the issues of our lives," Brown said. "We have such a tendency to be doubtful, discouraged and defeated when life overwhelms us, and Driving Reflections help to turn those thoughts toward what God intended for our lives."
The Driving Reflections product line includes sets of 2 1/2" x 6" cards printed in reverse. The cards are held in a non-slip cardholder placed on the dashboard of a vehicle to reflect the message off the interior windshield. Each card features a message or quote written as a first person affirmation.
"Since vision and repetition are two powerful resources for absorbing information, I designed Driving Reflections as a way to easily learn and enforce affirmations, facts, figures or quotes," Brown said.
Now’s the time Brown says the genesis for Driving Reflections came from her need to transform herself through Bible study and affirmations following years of verbal and emotional abuse from her now ex-husband.
"In gathering affirmations into my notebooks, I began to write affirmations based on the things I was learning in Bible study,” Brown said. “These were much more powerful, truthful and believable to me and I wished I could do more with them."
While in her car one day, Brown noticed she was able to read the reflected words on her windshield from papers sitting on the dashboard. She began to contemplate how this concept could be combined with her affirmations.
"In October 2005, God woke me up at 4 a.m., saying, ‘Now’s the time,’ and I knew exactly what He was talking about," Brown said. "God’s direction to me was to create them by paraphrasing what the Scriptures are telling you that you have as a believer."
Using four popular Bible translations, Brown created first person paraphrases of Scriptural statements. She spent the next 18 months developing the concept, and Driving Reflections was launched in March 2007 with 12 categories of paraphrased Scripture affirmation cards.
Moving forward Brown said occasionally people express concern over the possible distraction Driving Reflections might pose. Once people realize they are transparent, out of a driver’s line of vision, are only 2 1/2" x 6", and "do not demand your attention like a cell phone or GPS unit," their doubts subside.
"It can be viewed at a glance, much like viewing your vehicle’s instrument panel while driving," she said.
Brown is not only the Driving Reflections creator, she also uses the product line in her own car.
"They are subtle, yet powerful, to keep reminding me of how awesome God is and the promises I have in Him," she said. "I stop and evaluate my current thoughts and ask myself if they are lined up with what God says I have in His Word."
In January, Get It In Your Soul is launching an Inspirational line for the general market. Brown said most of the affirmations in the new line still come from the Bible, but without references to Scripture.
"I hope the Inspirational line will pave the way for those 'sitting on the fence' spiritually," she said.
Since the launch of Driving Reflections, Brown said the feedback has been very positive. Get It In Your Soul also now offers customized products for businesses needing memorization or reinforcement of key messages.
"My greatest joy has been when people come up to me, call me, or write me and tell me what an impact these have made in their lives," Brown said. "And, sometimes it’s not them personally, but the people that get into their cars and read them."
